Film Critique- Coraline

CORALINE

In genreal terms, the film has a dark, creepy overtone to it. It is created by Tim Burton. The subject it covers is appreciation for the family and friends you have, and accepting them for who they are. The film is animated, and is set in the real world, but with twists of fantasy, like the wormhole to the alternate universe where Coraline finds her "other family" who is "perfect,"  but not really what she expected after all.
The main theme of the theme is kinda creepy, with all the button eyes and stuff... after all, it IS Tim Burton. Not really everyone wanted to watch it because everyone said it's just really weird and creepy, and I agree. It's a good film, but still could give a little kid nightmares for sure.
I think it's a good quality film. The animation's not very realistic looking, but it's very well done and impressive. I know when it came out, a lot of people wanted to see it. So obviously it did spark a lot of interest once people started talking. I have never seen it myself until now though.  And obviously, since it was an animation, there wasn't much acting haha, but I think the voices fit the characters well. Also the music added to the creepy theme of the film. Though sometimes the music was a little less mysterious.
There was definitely character development in Coraline for sure. In the beginning, she didn't really appreciate her family and friends as much, because of the situation they were in. She obviously wished things were going better, making her very vulnerable to being tricked by the alternate universe and its perceived perfect nature.
Like I said before, a lot of people were interested about the movie when it came out. I think this mayyy be because since they hadn't seen it, they didn't know how creepy it can be for little kids. My friend told me that her little sister had nightmares for a while after seeing it. I mean, there's nothing necessarily scary, but I can keep an endless list of creepy things throughout the movie, like the black button eyes for example.
I think a strength was the plot. It was interesting to follow it along and wonder what will happen next. (although sometimes that was spoiled for me because certain people may have just so happened to have seen it before and feel the need to tell me everything that's going to happen *cough cough aaron*)
I would say some weaknesses were that they could have made the animation a little bit more realistic. For example, Coraline's face looked way too unrealistic and doll-like.  Also, I think they could have made the alternate universe turn bad just a little bit quicker, because I was kind of losing interest as nothing was really happening.
